Each woman is different where morning sickness is concerned. If it starts, it will be in the first trimester. In fact you can look for it to start as early as a week, but this is uncommon. Typically it starts after your first month of pregnancy, maybe about the same time you notice you missed your period.

How does morning sickness feel?

It can be a mild and uncomfortable queasiness, like you ate something that didn’t agree or wasn’t well cooked.

You may have nausea, the feeling like you are going to throw up and even gagging.

Sometimes it is just outright vomiting. You know what that feels like.

Any of these feelings can last off and on all day, or just might happen for part of the day. It may happen more or less the same times of day or it may be anytime without rhyme or reason. None of these feeling are pleasant, however some women have feel better after actually vomiting instead of holding that nausea feeling.

Morning Sickness and Hypoglycemia

Sometimes nausea brought on my low-blood sugar feels like morning sickness and may go away off an on in the same way. If you are having other symptoms, you are more likely pregnant. If eating almost always makes you feel better and you have no pregnancy symptoms, you may be hypoglycemic.

However, the only way you know for sure is taking a pregnancy test.

Will I have morning sickness?

Possibly, not strictly speaking. There are some things that may make you more likely.

If you are carrying multiples.

If you were sick during the first pregnancy or your mother was sick with her pregnancies.

If you have a history of nausea or vomiting with birth control pills.

If you are susceptible to motion sickness.

You suspect you’re pregnant when you have symptoms like morning sickness and fatigue.

You know you’re pregnant when you take a test.

Most women take buy a home pregnancy kit because they are inexpensive and fast. What do you need to know to make sure you get good results?

How to take one

You can get a home pregnancy test (or HPT) at almost any drug store or the medicine section of superstore. Depending on the brand and how many tests come in the box, it will run you from $8 to $20.

Most popular HPTs work in a similar way. You basically urinate on the stick provided in the test. (Some involve collecting urine in a cup and then dipping the stick into it, but this is not so common anymore.)

Then you wait a few minutes, how many minutes depends on the brand. Once the time is up, you check out the “result window.” The kit will have some indication like a line or a plus symbol that appears if you are pregnant. Your kit will tell you what to look for.

It does not matter how faint or dark the line is, a line means the result is positive.

Most tests also have a line or symbol that works as a “control indicator”. In other words if the control indictor does NOT appear in the results window, the test itself is not working properly, no matter what result you get. You will have to take another home pregnancy test.;

How a home pregnancy test works

Pregnancy tests look for a special hormone in the urine or blood that is only there when a woman is pregnant. This pregnancy hormone, or hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), is made in your body when a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. This usually happens about 6 days after conception. However, for some women, however, the embryo implant later than 6 days. Either way, the amount of hCG in a pregnant woman’s body increases drastically with each passing day of pregnancy.

One of the emotions you will go through in your first trimester is worry or concern. Did I do anything to hurt my baby? Is that feeling normal? Is everything OK with the baby?

Many times, everything is OK. The more information you get, the better you will feel. At least you’ll have an idea of what is normal and what to expect.

There are things that are good and may indicate a problem. If you have any of these symptoms, make it a point to see your doctor.
Twins

Many women wonder, right from the beginning, if they are pregnant with twins, or more. Twins occurs about once in every 32 births (and multiples of more than 2 occur less often). But if you are pregnant with twins, it is better to know earlier than later.

The early twin symptoms among women may differ, but the common signs of a twin pregnancy are:

* fetal movement early in pregnancy (5 months is average for a singleton pregnancy)
* severe morning sickness
* distinct multiple heart beats at 10 to 12 weeks
* extreme fatigue
- growing one baby drains a body’s energy, but carrying around two, three or more can be even more exhausting. this is a common complaint of pregnant mothers of twins

Discharge

Thin, clear discharge is normal for early pregnancy. If you notice a change, you should check with your caregiver. A white but odorless discharge that’s causing itching or burning may be a sign of a yeast infection. Foul-smelling or frothy or yellow, green, or gray (with or without irritation, itching, or burning) might indicate a different kind of vaginal infection or a sexually transmitted infection.
Bleeding or Spotting

Spotting, or a little bit of light bleeding, is normal and common during the first trimester of pregnancy can be very normal. (However, bleeding in the second and third trimesters is not a good sign and should be treated immediately.) Sometimes spotting is accompanied by low back pain and cramping in the lower abdomen. Normal. The spotting is usually brown or pink. Normal.

Spotting happens because as the embryo attaches to the thickening wall of your uterus, some blood from the wall is released. If you are very active or just exercised, that might increase the chances of spotting too. If you find spotting in the first trimester, you might take it a little easier but bed rest is not necessary.

You should be a little more concerned if you notice:

* bleeding heavier than spotting
* bleeding that turns bright red
* passing clots or tissue
* increase of pain or a fever

If you see these things, call your doctor immediately.
Tubal Pregnancy

Also known as tubal ectopic pregnancy, it occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, often in the fallopian tubes. The chances of such an occurrence are one in fifty pregnancies. The symptoms could be bleeding, abdominal or pelvic pain or tenderness, and pain that worsens while coughing or moving bowels.
Miscarriage

A miscarriage is the loss of a baby before the 20th week of pregnancy. When it happens it is often during the first 12 weeks. A woman who is miscarrying may experience minimal to severe cramping. The most common symptom of a possible miscarriage is vaginal bleeding. The bleeding may be minor to heavy and often has blood clots and other tissue in it.

It is not too early to see your doctor or midwife. It can be very reassuring to hear a fetal heartbeat (often heard as early as eight to nine weeks with a doppler) and to make sure the uterus is growing as expected. An ultrasound may also be indicated.
